Report on NGEF land sought for Metro Rail

The High Court on Wednesday granted two weeks time to the Official Liquidator (OL) of NGEF to file a detailed report regarding its land sought for setting up Metro Rails workshop cum de pot and traffic integration hub at Byappanahalli.

This order is pursuant to the State government application seeking court’s permission to acquire about 53.107 acre NGEF land, in favour of BMRC, KSRTC and BMTC for Metro Rail workshop, depot and traffic integration hub including KSRTC and BMTC bus depots.

At the hearing on Wednesday, advocate Deepak representing the OL, sought two weeks’ time for filing the report saying that joint inspection for physical verification of lands sought to be acquired is scheduled on March 24.

PGET: Marks matter
The HC on Wednesday reserved its orders on the writ petitions filed by three aspirants of Post Graduate medical seats for 2008-09 courses, who have challenged the results of PGET-2008 held by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences(RGUHS). Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri who heard the arguments in the case, reserved his orders.

HC canteens
The High Court on Wednesday disposed of the petitions by owners of two canteens in HC premises, facing eviction, while granting them time till June 15, to vacate the premises.

The canteens’ eviction had been ordered by the district administration under Public Premises (Eviction) Act, following a request from HC Registrar General. The eviction orders were confirmed by a city civil court against which the owners, Haridas and N Ramananda had moved the HC.

Justice K L Manjunath disposed the petitions after recording the owners’ undertaking to vacate.

Final hearing
Final hearing on the writ petition moved by Srinivasa Reddy against cancellation of his appointment as Managing Director of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewage Board, started on Wednesday. Reddy has challenged the Dec 14 2007, Government Order that had terminated his contractual appointment, following Lokayukta ADGP’s raid and direction. Supreme Court senior counsel P P Rao submitted arguments on behalf of Srinivasa Reddy.

Ultimatum for funds
The HC on Wednesday gave an ultimatum to the State Government to release funds for repair works of the state highway from Makkuta in Virajpet taluk to Kerala border before April 2.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice Ravi Malimath passed an order to this effect while noting non-release of funds as per its order on January 11, 2008. On that day, following a PIL, the Bench had directed the Government to release funds within three weeks and carry out road repair works immediately thereafter.

The Bench has granted time till April 2, while warning that in case of failure, PWD Secretary will have to appear before it and explain.
