Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner M A Sadiq told reporters on Thursday that the electoral rolls for the delimited constituencies of Yelahanka, Bytarayanapura, Yeshwanthpur, Devanahalli, Mahadevapura (SC), Bangalore South and Anekal is being prepared and the process will be complete within a week.
As per the deadline set by the Election Commission, the final voters’ list for the existing constituencies in Bangalore Urban districts excluding BBMP limits - Yelahanka, Uttarahalli, Varthur and Anekal - was published on Thursday.
The draft list for the four constituencies was published on February 26 and objections were called from the public for mistakes, additions or deletions, if any.
As per the final list the four constituencies have a combined voters’ strength of 40.17 lakh. As many as 1.11 lakh additions have been made, while there were 6,886 deletions.
Uttarahalli has the largest voter base with 19.37 lakh eligible voters. However, these statistics would be dated once the voters’ list as per the delimited constituencies is out.
Sadiq said citizens can still apply for additions and deletions or transfer of names and the process would go on till the calender for elections are announced.
The final voters’ list is available at the offices of the electoral registration officer, assistant electoral registration officer, ward offices and office of the village accountants in the respective jurisdiction. The list can be accessed on the website: www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in
ID Cards
Replying to a query, Sadiq said as many as 21 per cent of the voters in the four constituencies have photo identity cards. He said his office is yet to hear from the Election Commission on launching a photo identity card drive.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
Call it realisation a little late in their life. But, as many as 28,664 citizens who are 80 years or above registered themselves in the voters list between November 2, 2007 and January 21, 2008 in the four assembly constituencies of Yelahanka, Uttarahalli, Varthur and Anekal. As many as 12,375 octogenarians registered to exercise their franchise in Uttarahalli alone during this period, as per statistics released by the office of the Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner.
