The readymade garment sector is slated to double its growth by 2010 and it is imperative to increase the number of Apparel Trade and Design Centres all over the State, according to Governor Rameshwar Thakur.
He made this observation in a speech, read out in his absence by his advisor P P Prabhu, during the inaugural function of ‘Cauvery Saras - 2008’ a national mela of cottage industries, at the National College Grounds at Basavanagudi. “There are already six such centres in different districts in the State and there is a need to set up more such in rural areas,” he said. He also called for organising such melas at the headquarters of districts so that rural artisans are given a boost.
Timings
Rural artisans from 13 states have put up 220 stalls which includes 126 from Karnataka. Bamboo items, pottery, terracotta, textiles, handicrafts, etc are among the products showcased. It is open from 10.30 am to 9 pm.
