Eid celebrations today
Processions by Muslims through the streets of the City will mark Id-e-Milad, the festival held to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed. Sunni muslims, in particular, will take part in huge numbers in the functions. Two processions will converge at the CMA grounds in Nrupathunga road and the Jhudus Sab Idgah Grounds on Millers road.
The Ulema will also take part in these programmes. Speakers will bring to light various aspects of the life and teachings of Prophet Mohammad and urge people to follow in His footsteps. Feeding of the poor and other altruistic activities will also take place on the day outside mosques and other mohallahs in the City.
Guv’s greetings
Thakur has greeted the people of Karnataka on the occasion of Id Milad and Easter which fall on this Saturday and Sunday, respectively. “Two religions have been giving light for achieving welfare of mankind. Two great philosophies are thriving to protect peace and harmony of human race. Let this auspicious occasion bring peace and solace to all of us,” said the message from Governor’s office.
‘Students harassed’
The Federation of Muslim NGOs today charged that students of a Madrasa near Hassan were harassed by CoD police in the name of investigations.
Dr Saad Belgami, chief of Jamaat E Islami Bangalore unit, addressing a press conference in Bangalore on Thursday alleged that CoD police paraded schoolchildren asking them to identify people in photographs. The children were forced to give details on persons arrested in connection with terror activities and were also threatened with dire consequences if they did not do so, he said.
‘Fight for rights’
Food and Civil Supplies Department has taken up programmes to educate the public on consumer rights, B Shivappa, joint director of the department said on Thursday. Speaking at a World Consumers’ Rights Day programme organised by the department in Bangalore, Shivappa said consumers should be aware of their rights. If they are cheated they should fight for justice. “If customers are not satisfied with the service they are getting, it will have adverse effect on the market at the national level,” he said.

ING Vysya Bank’s St Marks’ Road Branch, Bangalore moved to a new premises in the neighbouring Vittal Mallya Road, #23/3, St Joseph's Boys’ Indian High School Compound, on Thursday. The new premises was inaugurated by Eli Leenaars, Member - Executive Board, ING, Amsterdam. The new premises has all services.
IIM’s 33rd convocation
The 33rd annual convocation of IIM, Bangalore, will he held at the IIMB campus in Bangalore on March 25. Dr Gururaj Deshpande, co-founder and chairman of Sycamore Networks Inc. will be the chief guest.
