Based on confirmed reports, the Excise officials stopped a Maruthi van, which was moving in a suspicious manner, on the Kolar-Chintamani road, near Madavagurjenahalli village which comes under Sugaturu hobli in Kolar taluk.
Cans seized
The officials discovered three cans of spirit and three film rolls. The van was also seized and the driver has been arrested.
When the driver was subject to interrogation by the Excise officials, he revealed that illicit liquor was being manufactured in the farm house of Munikrishnappa in Madavagurgenahalli. The Excise officials also conducted a raid on the farm house and recovered illicit liquor manufacturing machines, three film rolls, 15 empty spirit cans and three cans having a capacity of storing around 35 litres of liquor - all have been seized.
Assistant Commissioner of the Excise Department T Jayaram informed that the total value of all these goods were worth Rs three lakh.
Under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner T Jayaram, Superintendent R Venkataramaiah, Excise officials Deputy Superintendent of Excise Sub-Division L A Manjunath, Chintamani Sub-Division, Excise Deputy Superintendent Mahesh Kumar, Excise Deputy Superintendent Nagendra Singh, Chandrappa, M Ramamani and other staff members conducted the raids.
All the items have been recovered by the Excise department.
Assistant Commissioner of the Excise Department T Jayaram informed that extensive search operations were being implemented in the district and raids were being conducted on the illicit liquor manufacturing units.
The number of such illicit manufacturing units were coming down, he added.
