British sci-fi guru Arthur C Clarke will be buried at a private funeral in Sri Lanka’s capital on Saturday, a close aide to the late writer said.
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse described Clarke’s death as a loss to the island, the author’s adopted home since 1956.
Clarke will be buried at Colombo's General Cemetery on Saturday at 3:30 pm. He wanted a strictly secular ceremony without the pomp of a state funeral, said his spokesman, Nalaka Gunawardene.
Dy Navy Chief in Dhaka
Dhaka, uni: Deputy Navy Chief Vice-Admiral Raman P Suthan paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Chief of Naval Staff Vice-Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam at the Naval Headquarters here on Thursday.
Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Mustafizur Rahman and Indian Defence Attaché were present during the meeting.
The Deputy Chief spent some time with the Bangladesh Navy Chief and discussed matters of professional interest.
US military aid to Kosovo
Washington, xinhua: The US will give military assistance to Kosovo, which just gained independence amid controversy over recognition of its declaration, according to the White House.
“The US will grant Kosovo eligibility to receive defence articles and defence services under the Foreign Assistance Act and the Arms Export Control Act,” stated the Presidential Determination signed by George W Bush.
