Homegrown car maker Tata Motors, on Saturday, reduced prices of its hatchback Indica and Sedan Indigo by up to Rs 15,300 to pass on the benefit of excise duty cut to its customer.
The prices of Indica range have been reduced in a range of Rs 8,500 to Rs 14,600 while prices of recently launched Indigo CS have been reduced in a range of Rs 12,700 to Rs 15,300, a company official said.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday proposed to reduce excise duty on small cars and two-wheelers to 12 per cent from the previous 16 per cent post which varies automobile companies have been reducing prices of their products. Tata Motors has also reduced the prices of its entire commercial vehicle range by two per cent.
Luxury car maker Skoda has also announced a cut of up to Rs 18,000 on its hatchback Fabia’s diesel variants.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors, in Bangalore announced that it has commenced sales of its latest passenger vehicle offering, Sumo Grande, in the domestic market. Sumo Grande, unveiled at Auto Expo in January this year, is commercially available from dealerships located in metros and select large cities.
The Sumo Grande range, available in three variants of Lx, Ex and Gx, is priced in the range of Rs 6.53 lakh to Rs 7.48 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore), it was stated. “It will be progressively made available across the country in a phased manner,” Head, Product Group, Utility Vehicles, Passenger Car Business Unit, S G Saksena said.
