Burns victim succumbs
DH News Service, Bangalore:
A woman who had sustained burn injuries accidentally, after a fight with a money-lender five days ago, died on Thursday.

Shahtaz Begum (35) succumbed to her burns at Victoria Hospital where she was undergoing treatment.

Police said around four years ago she had borrowed Rs 20,000 from Arab Ali. On March 16, Arab Ali came to her house demanding her to return the money. Shahtaz Begum was cooking on a pump stove at that time.

When Arab Ali insisted that she pay the money, Shahtaz expressed her inability. An heated argument followed, and in a fit of rage he allegedly pushed her. Shahtaz Begum lost her balance and hit a shelf. To her misfortune, a kerosene can kept on the shelf fell on the pump stove and within no time the fire spread, engulfing Shahtaz Begum also. Before the fire could be extinguished, she suffered serious burns. She was rushed to the Victoria Hospital where she breathed her last on Thursday. Siddapura police have arrested Arab Ali in this connection.

Valuables stolen
A woman who opened the window of her house to let some fresh air in ended up losing her valuables valued at Rs 1 lakh.

Police said Veena, a resident of Mariappanapalya near Ganesh Temple under Rajajinagar police station limits opened the window close to the door as it was humid inside the house. The miscreants unbolted the door by gaining access through the window and decamped with her gold necklace and mobile phone. Veena realised the theft only in the morning.

Body found
The body of an unidentified youth was found in a pond near Kanteerva Stadium on Friday morning. Police said the body was found after hasi karaga ritual had been performed in the pond. The youth, aged around 22, was wearing  denim trouser and a T-shirt.

Two injured
Two persons were injured in a road accident on Friday night in Wilson Garden traffic police limits. The injured are Zameer, 22 and Naseer, 22, both residents of Siddapura.

Zameer and Naseer fell off the bike and sustained injuries on their legs. The driver of the bus was allegedly beaten up by an angry mob. However, police denied it. They have taken the driver into custody.
