Convergence of festivals celebrated
DH News Service, Tumkur:
It was a day of joy as festivals of the prominent religions in India i,e., Hinduism, Christianity and Islam had all converged on Friday lending a festive air to the atmosphere.

Hindus splashed colours on each other on the occasion of Holi, Muslims offered prayers and also took out a procession on the occasion of Eid-Milad and Christians observed Good Friday.

Special prayers were organised in Tumkur on the occasion of Eid-Milad. Congress district president Shafi Ahmed who spoke on the occasion urged people to take oath to lead a peaceful and harmonious life.

Speaking about brotherhood he said that people in society should lead life like good brothers and should have faith and mutual respect towards each other. Many people including CMC President Aslam Pasha and others took part in the meeting.

Christians in the city observed Good Friday in a traditional way and went to the church to seek god’s blessing. Many cultural programmes where organised on the occasion.

The streets of the city where decorated with colours as Hindus splashed various colours on each other and celebrated Holi. Holi was observed in the premises of many schools and colleges where children and youth poured out their joy by splashing colours on each other.

One of the most vibrant festival of Hindus, Holi is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. The story goes that demon king Hiranyakashapu wanted his subjects to worship him rather lord Vishnu. But his son Prahlada, an ardent devotee of lord Vishnu refused to bow to his wishes. Enraged, he asked his sister Holika, (who had a boon that fire can’t burn her)  to enter fire along with son Prahlada.

But Holika forgot that boon worked only when she entered the fire alone and thus was burnt alive and Prahlada saved by divine grace.
