Delivering the inaugural address at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new building at Dr A V Baliga Institute of Social Sciences and Rural Management here on Wednesday, he said that there is an urgent need for the self exploration among Indians rather than to be proud regarding 4 Indians making it in the list of rich people around the globe.
Even though the last two 5-year plans and current 11th plan has been centred on the rural development to some extent, there has been less development in the area owing to the lapse of the identification of the beneficiaries, he added.
Expressing deep concern over the day-by-day deteriorating condition of the rural areas in the country, Prof Kaveriappa said that as many as 250 million people in the country, especially in rural areas are unable to fetch two square meals per day.
Employment and education is still a dream in reality, forcing these people to migrate to urban areas in search of livelihood, he added.
He called upon the students to be more sensitive and work towards the rural development.
