Karnataka Rakshana Vedike ( federation of all pro-Kannada association) has severely criticised remarks made by Maharashtra Deputy CM R R Patil on Karnataka. R R Patil’s remark that Karnataka government was worse than Pakistan army and the demand of Maharashtra assembly to impose Centre’s rule in border areas of Belgaum, Nippani and Karwar has drawn sever flak from the Vedike.
KRV leader K N Prabhakar has said that Maharashtra government has betrayed the country by saying so. Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES) has suffered a major set back in the recent Belgaum City Corporation elections and as a result both the coveted places of Mayor and Deputy Mayor has been bagged by Kannadigas.
Marathi sentiment
There is a increasing conscious among the Marathi speakers of the region about the need to learn and respect Kannada, as their survival is at stake. There are also making efforts to transform themselves to Kannadigas, Prabhakar added.
Inciting conflict
The Vedike members have alleged that Maharashtra government is purposefully inciting the border issue in order gain back the trust of Marathis who in recent times have started distancing themselves from the MES.
The members have also demanded the Central Home Ministry to immediately arrest the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and sending him to jail.
Elected
K Guttahalli Shivaraj has been elected as the General Secretary of the KRV district unit, Bodikote Nagesh has been elected as the Assistant Secretary at the meeting presided over by KRV district unit President K N Prabhkar. The meeting was held under the guidance of KRV leader Shivarame Gowda and State Secretary Praveen Kumar Shetty.
