Have a flair for writing? Undercover Utopia presents you with a golden opportunity to unleash the author in you.
The publishing house is looking for the next big author and is launching the Golden Pen contest on Saturday.
Writer-publisher duo Abhigyan and Mrinal Jha, who started the publishing house nine months ago, say, “We have been writing fiction for the past 15 years and we know it is a difficult profession. But we have managed to make a living and this is exactly what we are trying to say through our publishing house.”
Great opportunity for sure, but what are they looking for in the contestants? “We have already brought out four books and are committed to bringing out six every year. At least three of these will be penned by first time authors. We are looking for people with ideas, the kinds that people can relate to. While characters are important, we are looking for incident driven plots. The writer should have the ability to make readers ask, “what happens next.” And borrowed ideas are a big no no with us!”
“We want to show intelligence sells and not go the bollywood way. In fact we think books make good fodder for movies. Look at ‘Kati Patang’ or the ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Lord of the Ring series’, ” they explain.
The launch of the author hunt will be preceded by fun activities such as mind reading and event prediction.
An interaction with ‘Al Raines’, the secretive elusive author of ‘November Rain’ published by UU, the release of their publication, ‘Release 2.0’: The Bangalore Imperative, by Anil Goel, a quiz and a workshop on writing a novel are also planned.
The event will begin at 11 am at Reliance TimeOut, Cunningham Road.
