KOA support for Ajay Patil
Karnataka Olympic Association felicitated up and coming badminton player Ajay Patil on Friday.
KOA President K Govindaraj presented a cheque for Rs 25,000 to Patil. He said KOA would support Patil’s training programme that would include stints abroad for one month for the next five years.
“The support will be based on the player’s performance. We have written to other sports associations in the state so that deserving sportspersons get backing at the right time,” Govindaraj said. Patil, a student of the KE Board High School in Dharwad, won 13 state-ranking tournaments in the last one year in the under-16 category.
MICO sail past CIL
MICO, Naganathapura Sports Club defeated CIL Sports Club by 42 runs in the KSCA Group II Division II league on Friday.
Batting first, MICO made 222 for seven in the allotted 30 overs, Jagannath top-scoring with 41. Jagannath took two wickets as CIL were restricted to 180 for nine in their quota of overs.

Inter-college sports meet

Shanmugam passes away
R Shanmugam, former footballer and a staff of the Bangalore District Football Association, died in Bangalore on Thursday. He was 60.
Shanmugham played for Southern Blues in the ‘60s as a stopper-back before joining KSFA and later BDFA in 1971.
