Representatives of Public Affairs Centre, Citizens’ Action Forum, CIVIC, Swabhimana and Karnataka Kolageri Nivasigala Samyukta Sanghatane, told reporters here on Friday that there are “fundamental errors” in the process of demarcating polling booth areas.
They released a report prepared after a survey in certain Assembly constituencies of the city. P L Rao of Prashantnagar Residents’ Welfare Association said, the voters list had been prepared in a haphazard manner with voters’names not in order of house numbers and cross roads. Voters of same areas have been randomly attached with different polling booths, he said. Ravindranath Guru said the maps of polling booth areas were misguiding, they are geographically inaccurate.
Poornima D G said: “We have submitted the report and memorandum to the CEO and civic authorities. But, they are not taking action.”
N S Mukunda of Citizens’ Action Forum said, the elections should be held only after rectifying the defects in the electoral rolls.
Errors
There are instances where residents of ground flour and residents of first floor of same buildings are allotted different booths. Babu Ibraham’s family residing on Chowdappa Road, Shantinagar are listed under Nanjappa Road. The mistake exists since the 2004 list.
POLL ROLLS
CEO R Ramaseshan said, citizens are equally responsible in preparing a clean voters’ list. Utmost care has been taken during the revision exercise. “If people still have any grouse, they can file the prescribed forms for addition, deletion and modifications and they will be done till the last date of filing the nomination papers.”
