The students from GKVK, Maharani’s Science college, Reva Institute of Management, HKBK College and Indian Akademy Degree College did something more than extending their labour to the cause. They staged a street play, explaining the importance of conserving water and water bodies. They also conducted a door-to-door campaign at Rachenahalli village, distributing pamphlets to explain the importance of saving water.
BDA Commissioner Siddiah told the reporters that the BDA was planning to spend over Rs 25 crore during next one year, on developing 12 tanks in and around Bangalore city. BDA will take up de-siltation of these tanks and de-weeding, besides trying to conserve the catchment areas of these tanks. The tanks that have recently been handed over to the BDA include Rachenahalli, Kanaghatta, Malathalli, Konasandra, Ekkur, Somapura.
The BDA is contemplating to seek more funds under the JNNURM programme to develop these lakes.
