The ‘Crafts Mela’ organised by Sahiyar Mahila Hastakala Utpadak Sahakari Mandali of Ahmedabad kicked off in Mangalore on Friday. Inaugurating the mela, former MLA Krishna Palemar said that melas such as these play a major role in promoting handicrafts.
The mela features rare exhibits, especially from Gujarat, like semi precious stones and ornaments, wood works, toys, incense items, german silver ware, oxidised white metal ornaments, panchaloha jewellery, gold plated ornaments, leather ware, wooden sculptures, silk and cotton sarees with thread work, dress materials and readymades, bedsheets, paintings, terracota ware and so on.
This is the first time the handicrafts from Gujarat is being exhibited in Mangalore. The mela will go on till March 30.
