“ISO certification reflects the efficiency of an organisation and enhances the buyers’ confidence,” said KCCI President Kumble Narasimha Prabhu. Delivering the inaugural address of the one-day Industrial Motivation Campaign on Awareness on ISO 9000, organised by MSME Development Institute along with KCCI here on Saturday, he said that ISO certification improves work culture.
Guest of honour on the occasion, Chief Executive of Lamina Suspension Product Ltd, the first company to attain ISO certification in the district, B S Baliga in his address said that Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSME) has a great role in the development of any country as it contributes to a substantial part of GDP. It costs crores to create a job opportunity in large scale industries, but it is possible in lakhs in medium scale and in thousands in small scale industries, he said and added that the district has a history of creating a job for just Rs 25, ie, the beedi industry, which unfortunately is not in a good shape at present.
Showing away the popular notion that ISO certification is necessary for exporters, he said that it rather makes the working mode of an organisation methodical and streamlined. He added that it is not a product certification as in ISI/BIS. Maintaining that the focal point of ISO certification is customer satisfaction, he said that it is a system where the company itself writes a procedure of working considering the international standards and work accordingly to those quality management norms. The certification has to be re-done in 3 years, he added.
Deputy Director in-charge of MSME branch P V Velayudhan presided over the function. Assistant Directors Y B Ravendran, Sundar Sherigar, KCCI office bearers and others were present.
