The impediments in connection with the construction of Suvarna Samskrutika Samucchhaya have not yet solved, and now it is the turn of the district indoor stadium project to stuck in the initial stages itself.
Though several months have passed after government released Rs one crore for the indoor stadium project, the district administration and Youth Services and Sports Department are spending time thinking which contractor should be assigned the job.
The Rs 1.98-crore indoor stadium project to be started near Mans Compound in the City has got administrative approval for which Rs one crore has already been released. Land Army Corporation had envisaged the estimation. But keeping examples of inferior quality projects by the corporation in the previous years, the district administration is hesitant to assign the present project to it.
Though ‘Nirmithi Kendra’ could take up the job, the district administration is said to be not willing. There are no establishments like Karnataka Housing Board or Police Quarters Construction Corporation in the district. Hence, it is inevitable to the district administration to give the responsibility to either Land Army Corporation or Public Works Department.
If the contract is given to the PWD, it should prepare a fresh proposal and get administrative approval again. It will take at least 5-6 months. Unless the government gives administrative approval, PWD cannot invite a tender.
Public are of the view that if DC K R Niranjan who is also the chairman of the Jilla Kreedangana Samiti holds a meeting at the earliest and takes proper decision, foundation stone can be laid for the project at least within monsoons. Otherwise, this project will also experience the same condition of the Suvarna Samskrutika Samucchhaya.
As the previous DC Subodh Yadav was interested in establishing an outdoor stadium, indoor stadium could not be built though fund had been released. However, it can be recalled here that the government had asked to use the money for the purpose of indoor stadium only.
