Hanging live wire claims one life in Mulbagal
DH News Service, Mulbagal:

Members of Virupaksha village held a protest in front of the Bescom office in Mulbagal on Saturday, following the death of a person who was electrocuted when he accidently came in contact with a live wire which had been left unattended by the Bescom.

On Friday night, Rajappa (25) of Veerupakshi village, while returning home from his work, came in contact with a live wire near Gangamma Temple and was electrocuted. The wire had been left unattended by the Bescom.

The villagers protested that electric wires got snapped every now and then in Virupakshi village. The village members had complained often to the Bescom officials, but they had not bothered to set it right. Several members of the public and elected representatives and leaders also joined the protest and demanded the officials concerned to set right the matter.

However, when the Bescom officials did not arrive even after a long time, general secretary of State Kisan Sabha M Gopal took the officials to task. Also there was a delay in handing over the body to the family members of the deceased, after the post mortem was conducted. The protesters also held a dharna against this issue.

State Kisan Sabha general secretary M Gopal, advocate Dasharath, Nataraj, Jayappa, CPM Secretary Ramachandra, Taluk Panchayat member Shankar and others took part in the dharna and also held a rasta roko for some time.

Rs 10,000 offered

Bescom officer Ranjith, who arrived on the spot, offered an amount of Rs 10,000 to the family members of the deceased and assured that an amount of Rs two lakh would be offered as compensation to them, within a week’s time.

The protesters also demanded that all the wires should be set right in the village and also employment on the basis of compassion, should be offered to one of the family member’s of the deceased. The Bescom officer assured that all the wires would be attended to and also, the Bescom would appeal to the government to provide employment to one of the family member’s of the deceased. A case has been registered by the Mulbagal police in this regard.
