Hopcoms were established to put an end to the harassment by middlemen and provide good service to consumers. However, this aim of Hopcoms has failed to live up to its expectation, regretted District Co-operative Union President Byalahalli M Govind Gowda on Saturday. Speaking after inaugurating a one-day training workshop for employees and staff of Hopcom outlets of Kolar held at District Co-operative Union auditorium, he said that the employees at the Hopcoms outlets had failed to attract consumers due to their bad attitude and poor managerial skills.
There are 26 Hopcom outlets in the district and if they give satisfaction to the consumers they can earn good revenue. Employees have to learn to deal with the customers with patience, he added.
Hopcoms Director Arahalli Gopalakrishna, who presided, said that to help the farmers in the district vegetable procurement centres will be opened in Kolar and Malur. The Hopcoms Board meeting had approved the vegetable procurement centres and will be started within a week, he added.
He said that though the staff of Hopcom were given a commission up to three per cent in addition to salaries, they had failed to attract consumers.
