TELLY TALK
New TV show on the block
Srabanti Chakrabarti
Now the focus seems to have shifted to the celebrity reality shows. 9X Yeh Hai Jalwa. A dance show where celebrities will tutor one common man (who can be anyone from a white-collared executive to a slum-dweller) and make them dance.

Till recently, soaps gave us the necessary dope to feel good or bad. Now the focus seems to have shifted to the celebrity reality shows. Not only have they been topping the popularity charts, but there also seems to be a population explosion of this genre of shows! The channels (with support from the telecom companies, of course), just cannot stop thinking of newer and newer ideas to rope in celebrities and make us feel nice.

Case in point is the newest offering from 9X – Yeh Hai Jalwa. A dance show where celebrities will tutor one common man (who can be anyone from a white-collared executive to a slum-dweller) and make them dance. Needless to say the best dancer (selected on the basis of SMS votes) will win! The stage is be shared by celebrities and common people. Each Jalwa team has six participants— one celebrity and five people from different walks of life. The celebrity line-up that 9X has managed is pretty impressive— Shweta Tiwari, Prachi Desai, Ronit Roy, Hussain Kuwajerwala, Rohit Roy, Sharad Malhotra, Rakhi Sawant and Varun Badola.

Interestingly, Yeh Hai Jalwa also marks the debut of Rosa Catalano as one of the team leads. The show has two of the most popular female leads of Indian television— Smriti Irani and Saakshi Tanwar— as hosts. Ask Saakshi Tanwar as to why she opted for the show and she will response, “I love dancing, and this was the perfect opportunity to be part of a dance-based show without actually competing in it!”
Yeh Hai Jalwa will be aired on 9X every Sunday at 8 PM.
