The Bharatiya Janata Party and AIADMK may share limited number of seats in the forthcoming elections to the Karnataka assembly.
Moves are afoot to set aside some seats to the AIADMK in areas where there is a sizable chunk of Tamil population in Karnataka, BJP sources has said.
“Things are being worked out,” they said. The AIADMK had in the past won couple of seats in areas like Kolar and Bangalore city, where there is a significant Tamil population.
Of late, the saffron party and the AIADMK have been giving indications that they will soon have an electoral understanding in Tamil Nadu for the Lok Sabha elections, due in 2009.
“There are commonality on stances taken by the parties on various national issues, including the controversial Sethusamudram project,” senior BJP leaders said.
Earlier in January, speculations were set off about the revival of alliance between the two parties when Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, fresh from his third straight win in the western state, had a luncheon meeting with AIADMK chief Jayalalitha.
The saffron party had then played down the political significance of the meeting and said Jayalalitha hosted lunch for the BJP leader to appreciate his thumping victory and congratulate him.
