Even though the whole of Patna was on Saturday head-deep-down busy celebrating Holi, one place which remained unmatched in revelry was 10, Circular Road, the official residence of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi.
Here, the RJD chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad celebrated the festival of colours in his own inimitable style.
Though he suffered a setback in the disproportionate asset (DA) case just two days back, the Patna High Court order failed to dampen Lalu’s Holi spirits. “Legal battle toh zindagi bhar chalta rahega, (Legal battle will continue life long),” an unperturbed Lalu remarked, as he threw a bucketful of colours on his spokesperson Shyam Razak.
Master’s mood
Taking a cue from the master’s mood, hundreds of supporters, including some former ministers, then indulged in what is known as kurta-phaad (tear the clothes) Holi. Somebody in the melee tried to smear gulal on Lalu’s face.
And the RJD supremo, known for his witty remarks, inimitable antics and a strong sense of earthy humour, willingly obliged. The TV journos fell over each other to have a byte or two of his sharp one-liners. And Lalu never disappointed any of them.
The only difference from Lalu’s previous Holis was the absence of launda (nautch girls) dance, an integral part of his celebrations. Perhaps the Railway Minister this time was conscious of his “image” he had so assiduously cultivated over the past few years.
Having played Holi, it was time for some delicious food. Pua, pudi, dahi-bada, and a wide range of non-vegetarian items were there for everyone.
