Speaking after presenting Karnataka Urdu Academy awards in Bangalore on Saturday, Singh said though many works of Urdu literature and poems are much talked about, no one knows about the authors. It was important that life and works of such scholars are published after a good research, he said.
Stating that Urdu was the ‘language of the land’, Mr Singh said Urdu was the unifying factor in India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Maulana Azad National Urdu University vice chancellor Prof A M Pathan, Abdul Sattar Mayal Tumkuri, Dr Majid Ali Daghi, Mr Ifthikhar Ahmad Shariff and Mr Taj Mohammed Khan were presented with the Academy award for the year. Besides, 10 persons and Muslim Library were presented with Suvarna Karnataka Award for their contribution for development of Urdu.
Book Prizes for the years 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 were presented on the occasion.
