Heavy rains
Bangalore, dhns: Heavy and untimely rain lashed several parts in the State, including Mysore, Mangalore, Hassan, Chamarajanagar, Tumkur, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag and Uttara Kannada districts on Saturday, dampening the holi revelry.
Coffee, cardamom and pepper crops were destroyed, putting farmers in trouble in Hassan district. Farmers who have grown pepper worth Rs 2.5 crore, are now in a quandary. But potato farmers in the district are a happy lot, as they look to grow one more crop, in addition to the regular one during monsoon. One person was killed when lightning struck him near Cheluru in Gubbi taluk on Thursday.
