Tumkur rural: Sureshgowda likely to get BJP ticket
DH News Service, Tumkur:
While the entire district is abuzz with political speculations, all eyes are set on Tumkur rural, the constituency which has been created for the first time. People are curious as to which candidates will contest from this constituency.

According to reliable sources, BJP has almost finalised  B Sureshgowda’s name for issuing party ticket.

Senior BJP leader Boregowda is also trying for the ticket. However, sources say in the given political scenario the possibility of him getting the ticket is almost nil.

“Sureshgowda has been very active in this Constituency. He has also financially helped the rural poor on many occasions,” said a BJP leader who did not wish to be named.

Vote bank arithmetic

There were possibilities of Sureshgowda contesting from Kunigal. However, since Huliyurudurga  has now merged with Kunigal after delimitation, Sureshgowda did some vote bank calculations and stepped back, observe party workers and  people.

Hence, in Kunigal BJP candidate will be only for namesake. The real contest will be between Congress and JD(S) candidates.

Sureshgowda is very familiar with Tumkur rural. He is expected to get massive support in Hebbur and Gulur hobli.

Even in other parts of the constituency it is the voters who will decide as to what extent Sureshgowda’s ‘benevolent’ activities will payoff.

H Ningappa, the likely JD(S) candidate to contest against Sureshgowda has also done significant development work for the constituency.

However, he failed to keep is promise of implementing Hebbur-Gulur lift irrigation scheme. It is now clear that there will be a stiff competition between Ningappa and Sureshgowda.

Even Congress is contemplating on bringing a strong candidate to this Constituency.

Thus Tumkur is all set for a triangular contest. Whoever will be the winner, it  the margin of victory will be minuscule.
