HASC edge out battling BEML
DH News Service, Bangalore:

Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club (HASC) overcame Bharath Earth Movers Limited, Mysore, 58-52 in the men’s ‘A’ Division basketball league for the N C Parappa Memorial Trophy at the Sree Kanteerava stadium outdoor courts here.

HASC, who went down meekly to ASC on Saturday, struggled initially to find their rhythm against ‘B’ Division league promoters BEML on Sunday. The Mysore outfit cashed in on the opportunity to level the scores at 8-8 midway through the first quarter.

HASC’s Ivory Coast players Ismael Frank and Jean Brice then powered them to a five-point lead (14-9) at the end of first quarter and 26-21 at half-time.

A refreshed Mysore outfit rallied splendidly at the start of the third quarter to come within a point (32-33) of HASC. Unfortunately, they couldn’t maintain the same tempo after that. Ramakanth V Rao, who scored 18 points, and Ravichandra (11) were the main scorers during that period.

Raj Kumar then restored a five-point lead for Aeronauticsmen with some good under-the-board shooting.

However, HASC tightened the screws in the fourth quarter to emerge winners.

For HASC, Raj Kumar basketted 18 points while Ismael Frank chipped in with 10 points.

In another match, Jayanagar Sports Club defeated Beagles Basketball Cl-ub 53-32. For JSC, Vasudev shot 17 points and Darshan contributed 10 while Fernando’s match high 18 for Beagles went in vain.

Results: HASC: 58 (Raj Kumar 18, Ismael Frank 10) bt BEML: 52 (Ravichandra 11, Ramakanth V Rao 18). HT: 26-21; JSC: 53 (Vasudev 17, Darshan 10) bt Beagles BC: 32 (Fernando 18, Yashas 10). HT: 28-20; Vijaya Bank: 60 (Rony 12, Srinivas Nayak 10) bt Young Orions: 31 (Abhishek 11). HT: 41-13; KSP: 57 (Lokesh 10, Lakshman G 10) bt Sports Hostel: 49 (Rabbani 24). HT: 30-25.
