Varsity set for first convocation

Tumkur University will hold its first convocation here on Monday.


Siddaganga Mutt Seer Dr Shivakumara Swamiji, former vice-chancellor of Mangalore and Goa University Prof B Sheikh Ali and Kannada cine actor K S Ashwath will be awarded honorary doctorates.

Educationists, H M Gangadharaiah and M S Ramaiah, will be given honorary doctorates posthumously, said Vice-Chancellor O Anantaramaiah here.

As many as 122 students have obtained ranks and 21 students have bagged gold medals. Over 2,414 candidates will receive their graduation certificate, the V-C said.

The convocation will be held at H M Gangadharaiah Memorial Hall at 11 am. Former Governor T N Chaturvedi will deliver the convocation speech, while Governor and Chancellor Rameshwar Thakur will preside. The University, which was opened on March 24, 2005, has 86 colleges and over 28,000 students under its limits. The convocation was supposed to be held the previous year itself.
