‘Let party leaders decide on constituency’

Mandya, dhns:   Confirming his contest to the forthcoming Assembly election, Union Minister Ambareesh on Sunday said that he wouldn’t decide the constituency. Speaking after inaugurating the new building of Shimsha Co-operative Bank in Maddur on Sunday, he said the issue of selecting the constituency has been left to the party leaders. “We will sit and finalise the issue,” he added.

It’s evident that current situation is in favour of Congress. There is no room for differences among the party leaders.

The party activists should also work hard for success in the coming election, he said. Zilla Panchayat former president Vivekananda, Shimsha Co-operative Bank President Appajaiah, L Lingaiah, Appu P Gowda, Tammanna and others were also present on the occasion.

Crucial JD(S) meet on March 26

Bangalore, dhns:  JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda has convened a crucial meeting of top party leaders on March 26 to set up various election committees, including the campaign committee.

State Party President Merajuddin Patel said a separate nine-member committee will be formed to shortlist the party candidates for the coming elections. Leaders like former CM H D Kumaraswamy, Merajuddin Patel, party working president C Narayanaswamy, former minister D Manjunath and others will be the members. The Committee will submit the list to Gowda who will scrutinise and final it.

The party sources said Gowda is likely to brief leaders about the campaign strategies, besides assigning specific tasks to each of the leaders.

Cong leader Adugodi Mohan joins JD(S)

Bangalore, dhns:    Former mayor and Congress leader Adugodi B Mohan has decided to join the JD(S). He will be joining the party along with many workers on March 31. He said he will be contesting on JD(S) ticket for BTM layout assembly constituency.


1 killed, 30 hurt in accident

Mysore, dhns: One person was killed and 30 injured when a lorry carrying a marriage party overturned here on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Kempegowda (45). More than 80 villagers, including five children and 12 women from Sugganhalli, near here, were returning from a wedding at Yadavagiri.

Three persons have been admitted to BGS Hospital and others treated at KRS and JSS Hospital in Mysore.

Rally over Hogenakal

Mysore, dhns: A motorcycle rally, organised by Mysooru Kannada Vedike, undertaken to create public awareness about the Hogenakal issue, was flagged off, at KR Circle, here on Sunday. Activists will be sensitising villagers on the Hogenakal row on their way to Hogenakal.

Noting that only Karnataka can take up development works in Hogenakal till a joint survey of the area is completed and the court verdict in this regard is pronounced, activists threatened to intensify protests if the Tamil Nadu government went ahead with its project in Hogenakal. Vedike President S Balakrishna, Nala Beedi Ravi, Shyamsundar, Srinath, Shashikumar, Papanni, Siddegowda, Prakash, Manu, Nithyananda and Purushothama were in the team that embarked on the rally. Kannada activist M B Vishwanath, JD(S) leader Raghu Achar, Samajwadi Party leader B Karunakar and journalist Rajashekhara Koti were present.

Jail birds clash

Mysore, dhns: Another incident of a clash between inmates has been reported at Central Jail here. One person was injured in the incident. On Sunday, inmates were allowed to come out of their cells. At this stage, a fight ensued between Shivaram, Alwyn D’Souza and Shubhan, during which Shivaram sustained injuries on his head. Jail staff rushed to the spot and sent the prisoners back to their cells and brought the situation under control.
