A cheetah which fell into a trap at Hulikal reserve forest, near here, died on Sunday.

According to villagers, the cheetah fell into the trap laid for catching pigs and other animals, on Saturday.

Villagers say the forest officials could have saved the cheetah had they taken timely action.

On Sunday morning, they informed the forest officials about the cheetah. However, they said the two guards who visited the spot took no steps to save the animal.
