By night, the heat and humidity of the afternoon was gone and a gentle breeze had gathered pace across the City.
Dark clouds started gathering at around 5:30 pm and it started drizzling around 6 pm. Areas in and around airport received heavy rains with the airport recording 5.6 mm rainfall. The atmosphere was different in the heart of the city as many areas received only 1 mm rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has predicted the same weather for the next 24 hours. The weather is likely to be generally cloudy. One or two spells of rains or thundershowers are likely to occur. Maximum and minimum temperature are likely to be around 31 and 20 degree celsius respectively, said the met sources.
Compensation
Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Monday announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the heavy rain that lashed north Karnataka and coastal districts in the last three days.
Incessant rain has claimed 13 lives in the districts of Gulbarga, Raichur, Dharwad, Belgaum, Bijapur and Udupi.
According to a note on the disaster management prepared by the Revenue Department, the highest number of deaths have occurred in Gulbarga and Raichur (four each), followed by Belgaum (two) and one each in the districts of Bijapur, Dharwad and Udupi.
Standing crops in 56,548 acres have been damaged due to the rain and the loss has been estimated at Rs 10.22 crore.
At a high-level review meeting, Mr Thakur instructed senior officers and secretaries in-charge of districts to visit the affected areas and review the relief measures taken by the district administration.
