The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission has registered a case following reports that women were being brought into the City for live band activity and prostitution. The Commission has sought reports from State Home Secretary and City Police Commissioner.
“It is imperative for State and law enforcement agencies to deal with the menace of trafficking in women and children with an iron hand and ensure welfare and dignity of women and children. Otherwise, they will be guilty of indirectly abetting one of the worst kinds of rights violation,” the Commission’s order said on Monday.
While forwarding to the authorities the copies of newspaper reports about 20 women being brought here, it sought their reports within a month.
It posted the case for consideration on April 14.
Improper maintenance
The Commission has also sought reports from Managing Director, and Vice-Chairman of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Police Commissioner regarding alleged improper maintenance of Kempe Gowda bus stand.
Taking note of a report on plastic littering, smoking menace and exploitation of passengers during nights, the Commission has sought reports on the matter within six weeks. The matter will again be considered on May 28.
