A workshop on National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme was organised for the taluk and the gram panchayat level officials at the taluk office premises in Bangarpet on Monday. The scheme comes into effect from April 1.
ZP Planning Officer Venkatram, who inaugurated the workshop, called upon the public to avail of the scheme which aimed at eradicating problems of unemployment and poverty.
Gram Panchayat is entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the scheme effectively and when mothers come for the work under the scheme a woman will be appointed to look after their children, he added. Both men and women are given equal pay, the officer said.
The Union and the State governments have released grants for various developmental works in the villages and these works should be undertaken through village meet, he added.
Taluk Panchayat President Shankarappa, Chief Executive Officer Dr Venkatswamy, Extension Officer Prasad were present on the occasion.
