Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has alleged that corruption in the excise department is to blame for the rise in the manufacturing and sale of illicit liquor in rural Karnataka.
In a press release KRV activists said that if measures are not taken to curb corruption in the department, activists will be compelled to take the initiative to teach a lesson to corrupt officials.
In cities liquor is sold officially in wine shops and other outlets where as in villages it is sold without permit in petty shops and tea stalls. It is even available in tea cups in these places all 24 hours of the day.
The excise department is very well aware of this. In fact, it is all happening with their direct and indirect support, alleged the activists.
Sold at houses
In some villages including Karadi, Karadalu Santhe ground, Nellikere, Ganganaghatta, Gunguramale, Honnavalli, Bidaregudi, Nonavinakere and Hunaseghatta arrack is sold even in houses.
Excise officials once in a while raid these units and seek publicity, whereas the truth is that illicit sale is taking place right under their nose, said the activists in the release.
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president R Vijaykumar Yaday said in the release that the matter will be first brought to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner and then a protest rally will be held.
