Sania Mirza’s commendable run at last week’s Pacific Life Open that ended in the fourth round has helped the Indian ace gain a spot to be 31st in the latest WTA Rankings issued today.
Sania, who battled a wrist injury through her fourth-round loss to Slovak Daniela Hantuchova in the USD 2.1 million event, now has 917 ranking points.
Galle to host first Test
The renovated Galle stadium, that was ravaged by the 2004 Tsunami, will host the first cricket Test of a three-match series between India and Sri Lanka starting July 23, reports PTI from Colmbo.

Anup fit for Indian Open
India's top shuttler Anup Sridhar has been pronounced physically fit to play in the Indian Open badminton Championship in Hyderabad from April 1, reports IANS from New Delhi. Sridhar was cleared by his doctor Sharan Patil on Monday to play in the $120,000 tournament that carries Olympic qualification points. "My was confident that I could play in the competition. I am feeling comfortable and the swelling has subsided,” Sridhar said.

Ashraful fined for hitting fan
Bangladesh have fined captain Mohammad Ashraful and three others for breaching the team's code of conduct, a senior Bangladesh cricket official said on Monday, reports Reuters from Dhaka.
Ashraful was fined 25 per cent of his salary for the month of March for hitting a fan during a practice session in Dhaka eight days ago.
