The compound wall of the world-famous Hampi Kamal Mahal memorial collapsed on Sunday morning, due to the heavy rains.
“Nearly15 foot-long and seven-foot tall portion of this historic building, which dates back to the Vijayanagar era, has collapsed, following continuous heavy rain over the last three days. The re-construction of that portion is on,” ASI sources told Deccan Herald.
But another source says that the wall collapsed due to the substandard construction work. When a portion of the wall collapsed last December, the same portion had been reconstructed, but collapsed because the construction was not up to the mark, according to the source.
Yet another source claims that a 50-foot long portion of the wall has collapsed. Some workers were working at the spot just a few minutes before the collapse, but the department denies this version.
