The members, who met the two politicians separately, apprised them about the new system and its impact on citizens. “We urged these leaders to speak to the Governor and ensure that the system is put on hold till a popular Government is formed. It is unfortunate that despite a series of protests, BBMP officials are adamant on introducing the system from April 1,” Mr Ramesh said.
Meanwhile, the FKCCI has called a public meeting on Wednesday to decide on the next course of action.
Residents’ protest
The Coordinating Committee of the Residents’ Welfare Associations of Indiranagar, a group of 21 associations, will stage a demonstration in front of the Mahatma Gandhi Statue. The members, led by their Chief Coordinator S C Burman (who is a retired IPS official), will also meet the Governor and submit a memorandum seeking that the system be scrapped.
Secretary of the Coordinating Committee G Ramamoorthy said the associations would seek intervention of political leaders to get the system scrapped.
The CPM has urged the Governor to scrap the scheme. The party has threatened to launch an agitation if the demand is not met.
