The ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) will host a conference later this year in Beijing to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s historic 1988 China visit that gave a fresh lease of life to the India-China relations.
A proposal to this effect was put forward by Li Jinjun, the vice-minister of the international department of the CPC central committee, during a meeting with senior Congress leaders at the AICC headquarters here on Tuesday.
Mr Li also proposed that Rahul Gandhi lead a party delegation to China and inaugurate the conference that is likely to be held around September-October. The meeting was held as part of the continuing effort to further build up the relationship between the two ruling parties of the neighbouring countries following Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s high-profile visit to China last year.
