In the backdrop of the inconvenience of the Zilla Panchayat to spend Rs 1.5 crore released for the rejuvenation of small irrigation tanks, the ZP has decided to write to the government to extend the period till May end to spend the amount completely.
The amount should have spent within the end of March.
As the Executive Engineer of the ZP Engineering Division has written to the ZP President Deerghakeshi Shivanna that the amount would lapse if was not spent within March 31, the ZP chief has come to this decision.
In the letter, the Executive Engineer stated that rejuvenation of the tanks was not possible due to untimely rains, but the same was inevitable in order to enrich the water resources. Hence, the ZP need to ask the government to extend the time so that the needful can be done, the letter added. ZP President Deerghakeshi Shivanna told Deccan Herald that an action plan would be prepared immediately for the repair and development of small irrigation tanks.
A sum of Rs 1.5 crore grant would be allotted equally to all 29 members towards the rejuvenation of the tanks, she clarified.
However, one of the ZP members said the amount was released only on March 19 this year, and asked how the ZP could make a proper use of the grant in such a short notice.
