As part of Shivaratri celebrations, many temples in and around the city were all decked up with colourful lights, and religious programmes in temples and mutts began at the crack of dawn.
Special pujas like rudrabhisheka and special alankara were organised. And from early morning, devotees queued up at temples for a darshana of Lord Shiva, and to perform special pujas.
Religious programmes were held continuously, from the morning to the evening. In the evening, various mutts and temples had organised bhajan recitals and other cultural programmes.
Thousands of devotees participated in the jagarane, rudrabhisheka and homas that were conducted across the city. The Shivaratri festival seems to have gained more importance with the Siddaganga mutt fair, and the Shivaratri programmes that were organised at the Mutt under the auspices of Dr Sri Shivakumar Swamiji. Special utsavs were held at at Hiremutt under the guidance of Dr Sri Shivananda Shivacharya Swamiji; Chikkatotlukere under Sri Atavi Shivayogi Swamiji; Nonavinakere Kadusiddeshwara Mutt unauspider the auspices of Sri Karivrushabha Deshikendra Swamiji; the Shankar Mutts in Tumkur and Tiptur, and the Chandramouleeshwara temples in Khyatasandra.
On Thursday, the third day of Shivaratri, the Siddhaganga Mutt maharathotsava will be held. The rathotsava will be held under the auspices of Dr Sri Shivakumara Swamiji. Lakhs of devotees are expected to particpate, and preparations are on in full swing.
