Inter-collegiate talent show
At an inter-collegiate talent meet held last week, M S Ramaiah College of Hotel Management won the overall championship. The crowning glories were the solo dance by Chandrabose and the cocktail making event by Varun. All the students were from second year competing against final year participants from other institutions.
The students also bagged the first place in the folk dance and the filmi group dance. By winning the first runners-up position in mime, the students proved they were the most talented among the10 colleges in the city. A fashion choreographer felicitated the participants of the dance and offered to train and take them on for one of his forthcoming events.
Jain College holds media fest
The PG department of Communication of Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College celebrated their media fest ‘MELANGE 08’ recently. Various colleges from the city took part in news casting, radio jockey, best communicator, media quiz, mobile documentary making, street play, poster making, cartooning competitions. The judges were specialists in their fields like Kiran Shridhar from Radio City who judged the radio jockeying event, Kannada actor A Srinivas Murthy judged their street play.
The finals were held at Shikshak Sadana. There was tough competition between various colleges to bag the overall winner’s trophy. Sri Sri Centre for Media Studies emerged overall winners. Director Indrajit Lankesh, who was the chief guest for the valedictory ceremony, encouraged the students with his words of wisdom. He said, “you are at the right place at the right time.” He asked the students to make the best use of their time and the opportunities given to them. He also appreciated the co-ordination between the faculty and the students which made the fest a grand success.
Graduation day
The class 10 students of Deva Matha Central School of 2007-08 batch had their Annual Graduation Day recently. Latha Mathew, the principal of the school, gave an insight into the activities of the students and the remarkable strides they have made during their tenure at the school.
Calling upon parents to encourage the wards to dream, she said it is not often that teachers get the opportunity to talk to the parents and their children on a single platform on what the children need.
The chief guest, Prof V B Coutinho, former Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University said, “allow the young ones to dream and follow what they aspire to do without coming in the way. Many of you would have loved to have engineers, doctors and all paying careers, but let it come from them,’’ he advised.
Annual day
Hindustan Academy at Marathahalli, one of the premier aviation institutes in the city, celebrated its annual day on March 4. Dr Krishna Das Nair, ex-chairman of HAL presided over the function. While addressing the gathering Dr Nair emphasised that the students should work with a high degree of integrity, dedication and professionalism. ``This should continue even when they join the industry on completion of their studies.’’ He noted that Singapore Airlines regularly enroll students from Hindustan Academy due to the high quality training imparted to the students by the dedicated staff of the academy. The annual day celebrations ended with a gala cultural programme with the academy students entertaining the large audience with their multifaceted talent.
Hindustan Academy has a polytechnic which conducts 3-year diploma courses in six engineering disciplines; a management institute teaching BBM and an aviation institute imparting 4 years aeronautical engineering and also 3-year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering courses.
