Service road 'out of service'
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The BBMP's decision not to allow vehicles on the service road at the underpass in Cauvery junction has benefited the local residents. They have been using the service road as a parking yard...

The underpass was dedicated to the public on February 20. Vehicles from Bhashyam Circle have been allowed to pass through the underpass, while vehicles heading towards international airport must take a U-turn at the underpass. However, vehicular movement has been restricted on the service road.

Vehicles coming Bhashyam Circle must turn left after the ‘up ramp’ to move towards Hebbal. The road to approach Bellary Road from the underpass is too narrow. Vehicle riders have to apply brakes while turning left.

Vijay Kumar, a two-wheeler rider, said it is difficult to apply brakes as there is a slope. Buses find it difficult to take a left turn. If a bus stops, vehicles behind it should also apply brakes.

He said the Palike should have allowed the service road for vehicles from Bhashyam Circle as that would ease the traffic flow.

Chief Engineer (Major Roads) K S Krishna Reddy, however, said the service road will be used only when traffic gets stuck at the underpass. He also said the Palike will take steps to prevent parking of vehicles on the service road.
