Car festival celebrated with pomp
DH News Service, Chikkaballapur:
Bhoga Nandeeshwara Swami car festival was celebrated with great fervour on Thursday in Nandi village.

This car procession is held a day after the Shivaratri festival and a large number of people had gathered this time. Also, the car festival this time saw the arrival of several foreigners, who took part in the procession with a lot of enthusiasm.

The arrival of the foreigners proved to be a great attraction among the local people. As the tradition goes two cars were drawn in the village, this time too.

Girijamba and Bhoga Nandeeshwara idols were installed in a huge stone car and the idols of Gowri- Ganesha were installed in another small car.

The two cars were then drawn by the devotees of the Nandi village and also those who had arrived from the neighbouring villages, with utmost devotion.

Tahsildhar Poornima, Sub-Divisional officer Dr Arundathi, KPCC member G H Nagaraj and others offered prayers to the car and kickstarted the car procession.

Dollukunitha, Veeragaase, Veerabhadrakunitha and other folk art groups performed in front of the cars as they were being led in the procession.

Former legislator S M Muniyappa, leaders N Ramesh, Anjinappa and others offered their prayers at Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple.

As part of the fair numerous stalls were set up around the temple. Also, giant wheel, Columbus, Tora Tora were all set up for providing entertainment to those who had gathered in huge number to witness the procession.

Though several people from the neighbouring villages had come on foot to Nandi village, a greater number of villagers had arrived in bullock carts, tractors and two wheelers.

Also, special bus arrangement was made from Chikkaballapur to Nandi by the KSRTC. In addition to this KPCC member G S Nagaraj had provided more than ten vehicles for free transportation of people.

He also distributed free drinking water sachets to the devotees in the fair. Also, the Devaraj Urs Medical College had arranged for an ambulance at the fair in case of emergency.

Following the tradition several farmer leaders Yaluvahalli N Ramesh and others distributed juice, kosambari and other delicacies to the devotees in their bullock carts.

Free food court

There was also a food court opened for the thousands of devotees who had come to attend the Nandi fair.
The adage that distribution of free food is one of the man’s most sacred task has been followed here for the last 14 years.

The free food is distributed without discrimination of caste, creed or religion and the committee has worked hard for the last one month for this ritual.

More than 8,000 people had food in this fair. As it was not possible to serve everyone on the table or on the floor, a buffet system was followed.

The uniqueness here is that everyone came forward voluntarily to donate money for preparing food. The money that is saved after spending on the food items is kept in a bank account in a fixed deposit.

Already there is Rs 90,000 in this fixed deposit and the interest that is got from this is used for free feeding.

Every year after the fair, account is presented to the public and the donors.

In this sacred work industrialist Vishwanath Rao, retired teacher Chikkaramaiah, Srikanth Bhatta, Narayanswamy, Chinnakrishnappa, M N Krishnappa, Shivanna, Krishnappa, Perumal, Munithimmaiah, Keshavar Venkatesh, Bhaskar and others are involved in the regular running of the fair.
