After Jodhaa Akbar, its Royal Utsav
Jyothi Venkatesh

Never mind the furore over distortion of history in his film Jodhaa Akbar by Ashutosh Gowarikar, film history seems to have become the flavour of the season for filmmakers of late and emerged as a new trend in Bollywood. After Bhagat Singh, Taj Mahal, Umrao Jaan and Jodhaa Akbar, one more historical film called Royal Utsav based on Alexander the Great reborn in India is now being readied for release in April this year. Ravi K Patwa has directed the film for producer Anju R Patwa.

Says Ravi K Patwa, "Royal Utsav is being made with a budget of Rs 10 crores in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu. Everything – art, costume, music, story etc has been well researched. The sets are too magnificent to describe."  He further adds, "The film's theme is 'love doesn't know any boundary'. I have tried to show that if two hearts confluence, there will be no borders and love will rule the world. To make the film interesting, I have even taken a little bit of liberty and put in Alexander the Great's reincarnation in India."

Says producer Anju R  Patwa, "Royal Utsav takes you back to 400 BC. It tells you the story of Alexander the Great, who having won the then known world, wanted to win India which was his last frontier but his army refused to move any further. Somehow he manages to win Kashmir but from there he is forced to retreat and on his way home he dies. His dream of conquering the whole of India remains only a dream as he believed that India being a different country could be won by the power to love instead of the power of the sword that he possessed. I have taken some cinematic liberty and set out to show that Alexander is reborn, returns to India and marries Rani Rupmati. "

The film stars new faces like Vikram Kumar, Tripta Chopra,Ariek, Katharin, Antra Vishwas, Charu Arora, Monalisa, Sudesh Beri, Khalida, Abhshiek Sharma, etc. Screenplay and Dialogues are by Qamaruddin Falak. Sahil Rayyan's lyrics have been composed by Vishnudeva. The film will have five songs, which are not only melodious but also the retro-classical touch. Cameraman is Jishwar Bidri.
