The Bangalorean, who arrived in the city on Friday afternoon after a grand reception for the vistorious team in Delhi on Friday evening, told the media persons that he was couldn’t wait to taste some home-made food than bother anything else right now.
Uthappa, by his standards didn’t quite set the tri-series on fire. But the attacking right-hander played a crucial role in the two finals against Australia. After having played in different positions through the league stage of the match, the Kodava lad got to bat at his normal opening slot in the last three matches including the last league mach against Sri Lanka. Though he failed against Lanka just when he was looking good for a big score, he justified the faith reposed in him by providing good starts with Sachin Tendulkar in the two finals.
Uthappa was all praise for Tendulkar. “As youngsters in the team we look up to Sachin.
“His presence allowed players like me to be more aggressive and his experience guided us to win the series,” he said.
When asked if this (tri-series) was the most memorable victory ever, Uthappa said that it was a good win but can’t be termed “as the most memorable yet.”
Uthappa’s mother Rosy was present at the air-port to receive the proud son and indicated that there might be long celebrations with friends and relatives.
