Rotary International President-elect Dong Kurn Lee on Friday inaugurated its Platinum Jubilee Year celebrations.
He also mapped the Club’s future plans.
Rotary Club of Bangalore, the third largest club in India, has grown from 25 members in 1934 to 270 today. The Club, which predominantly had a membership of Europeans in its inception, had a large number of Indians by end of World War II. The Club has seen illustrious presidents such as Homi Bhabha, the father of India's nuclear programme.
The landmark projects of the Rotary Club of Bangalore include Deep X Ray Radium Plant at Victoria Hospital, Rotary TTK Blood Bank, Rotary Seva Bharati School, where investments up to Rs 1.5 crore will be made to house 700 students with modern facilities.
Mr Lee, the first Korean to be elected Rotary International President, compared the growth of Korea in terms of GDP and the growth of Rotary clubs in this country, which ranks fourth in terms of members and third in terms of contribution to the Rotary Foundation. He said India is faced with some of the same problems as Korea, which is why Rotary in India has grown so strong He said in order to change the world, one has to start with changing themselves for the better.
