Excise superintendent Venkateshmurthy and his staff Eshwaranna, Madappa, Swami intercepted a tractor transporting 27 boxes of illicit liquor of a neighbouring State, near Nonavinakere cross in Tiptur taluk and recovered the liquor, The accused however, managed to escape and the liquor is said to be worth Rs 2 lakh.
Meanwhile, the Tavarekere police have also recovered illicit liquor kept in 50 cardboard boxes at a hut in Seegahalli in Gowdagere hobli in Sira taluk. On definite information, the police raided the hut in the land belonging to Jakkarayappa.
Asked about this, Jakkarayappa has said that after he finished work he had locked the hut and left and some unidentified persons must have entered the hut and placed the liquor.
This liquor is said to have been stored for election purposes to distribute to the voters. The value is said to be Rs 60,000. Tavarekere sub inspector Sadanand had participated in the raid.
