Kuvempu varsity  awards PhD
Kuvempu University has conferred doctorate on Ms Liril Fernandez, for her thesis on ‘Sequence and genome analysis of banana bunchy top virus DNA components.’
Dr Riaz Ahmed of the Department of Biotechnology in Kuvempu University served as guide for Ms Liril Fernandez.

Applications invited
Vocational training is offered at the Government Industrial Training Institutions in Bhadravati and Shikaripur and at the Women Government Industrial Training Institution in Shimoga for the year 2007-08.
Candidates who have passed SSLC and within 40 years of age group can apply. 
A 5 year age relaxation is offered for ex-servicemen and widows. Application costs Rs 20 and the last date to submit the application is June 12.

Orientation programme
An orientation workshop will be held for rural journalists at Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district from May 25 to 27. State Media Academy is organising the workshop as a mark of its silver jubilee year.
15 journalists from Shimoga district can take part in the workshop.
Experts will deliver talk about various aspects related to media, in the work shop. Free food and accommodation will be provided for the participants.

Cent per cent results
Morarji Desai Residential School in Shiralakoppa village of the district secured 100 percent result in SSLC exam.
Of the total 41 students who appeared for the exam, 3 got distinction, 27 first class, 6 second class and 5 students have passed the exam in common class.

Registration date extended
Last date for registering the names under Yashaswini scheme has been extended to May 15.
In a release, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies has urged the cooperative societies and members to avail themselves of the benefit.

Lecture series
Mahabharata Belaku, lecture series will be held under the aegis of SriGandha organisation in the City from May 13 to 19.
