Around 200 acres of land belonging to Karnataka Slum Clearance Board has been encroached announced Board chairman Rajendra Verma, here on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press meet, he said, due to the irresponsibility of officials, valuable land has gone to private parties.
Legal notice has already been issued to the encroachers who have constructed houses and commercial complexes on the land. What stringent actions to take against them will be decided at the board meeting to be held on May 15, he said.
He also said that the encroachers will not be spared, besides demolishing the constructions.
A team of five officials has been set up to inquire into the encroachment of land belonging to Slum Clearance Board in cities all over the State, including Bangalore, he said.
The committee comprising 3 employees of Karnataka slum Clearance Board, one member each from Karnataka Housing Board and Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation, will tour the State and examine encroachments.
It has been decided to reclaim the land and construct commercial complex, with private and public participation, he added. Half of the commercial complex will be rented out to private companies which will bring regular income to the Board. The other half will be given to the poor.
He also pointed out that the Valmiki-Ambedkar Avas Yojana houses have been sanctioned to other groups by middlemen and they will be immediately cleared and the houses will be sanctioned top deserving, he said.
