Karavalli, the specialty restaurant at the Taj Gateway, has bought together a festival of some of the most delectable Goan food. The festival is on from May 11 to 20 and will be an a la carte menu.
Goan cuisine is very rich in spices and ingredients. In true Portuguese - Goan tradition, many of the delicacies on the menu in Goa are various types of meat soaked in different spices for at least a day or two before being cooked with a generous dose of homemade spices. Apart from local spices, local Goa brews like Feni and Toddy also form an integral part of the cooking process. Lest the vegetarians get disappointed, Goan cuisine has special treats in store for the veggies as well and in fact has a whole range of Goan-Hindu specialties making it one of the most evolved cuisines of India.
The festival showcases plethora of delectable regional specialties like Camaro Triton Ailo - a spicy stir fried prawns flavored with garlic, chilly flakes, coriander and kokum, Borleleu Mankeo - Squid stuffed with mildly spiced prawns, Aulmin Jirem Mirem Fry - fresh Button Mushroom tossed in garlic, onion, ginger and chillies spiked with crushed peppercorns and mint.
